Updated 2 November 2026. Vacancy numbers refresh every day from Dubai Careers.
Dubai government jobs are some of the most searched jobs in the UAE, and expats ask the same question every time: can I actually apply? The answer is yes for some roles, but far fewer than most “jobs for expats” lists suggest. We count every vacancy on the official Dubai Government jobs portal every day to show how many are really open to non-UAE nationals, who is hiring, how to apply, and where to live once you land the job.
Quick answer
- Official portal: Dubai Careers (dubaicareers.ae) lists vacancies across Dubai Government departments.
- Open to expats: about 1 in 7 roles. Of the 284 vacancies we checked on 2 November 2026, 245 (86%) were for UAE nationals only and 39 (14%) were open to all nationalities, with priority still given to UAE nationals.
- Biggest hirer of expats: Roads and Transport Authority, with 26 of the 39 roles open to all nationalities.
- What gets expats hired: specialist and senior roles in engineering, HR, finance, legal, culture and technology, usually with several years of experience.

Dubai government jobs for non-UAE nationals: can expats apply?
Yes, but with limits. The UAE’s Emiratisation policy gives UAE nationals priority for government jobs, and many roles are open to them only. Each vacancy on Dubai Careers states its rule:
- “UAE Only”: expats cannot apply.
- “All Nationalities (Priority for UAE National)”: anyone can apply, but a qualified Emirati candidate will be preferred.
Search results for “Dubai government jobs for Indians”, “for Pakistanis” or “for Filipinos” lead to the same rule: there are no separate quotas by nationality. If a role says “All Nationalities”, any expat with the right qualifications can apply.
Dubai government jobs for women
There are no separate vacancies or quotas by gender on Dubai Careers: every role marked “All Nationalities” is open to female expats on the same terms. Women work across Dubai Government in HR, legal, finance, culture, engineering and customer service roles. Search the portal the same way and check the nationality line, not the job title.
Government-owned companies hire more expats
Many big employers people think of as “government jobs” are government-owned companies or authorities with their own careers sites, and they hire expats in large numbers. Examples include DEWA, Dubai Police (civilian and specialist roles), Dubai Health, Emirates Group (Emirates airline and dnata) and Dubai Airports. Check each organisation’s official careers page, and be wary of agents asking for fees: genuine government employers do not charge candidates to apply.
How to apply on Dubai Careers, step by step
- Create a profile on dubaicareers.ae with your email address.
- Upload a CV in English. Keep it to two pages and match the job title wording where it is true for you.
- Filter the results. Search by entity, and open each vacancy to check the nationality line before you spend time on the application.
- Answer the screening questions carefully. Many roles ask for a minimum number of years’ experience and a specific degree.
- Track your applications from your profile. Shortlisted candidates are usually contacted by email or phone for interviews and assessments.
Documents to have ready
- Up-to-date CV
- Passport copy (and Emirates ID if you live in the UAE)
- Degree certificates; many government employers ask for attested certificates at the offer stage, and some roles need an equivalency from the Ministry of Education
- Experience letters from previous employers
- Professional licences where the job needs one, for example a DHA licence for healthcare roles
Jobs in Dubai with visa sponsorship, and the job seeker visa
Visa sponsorship
Every Dubai government entity that hires an expat sponsors the employee’s UAE residence visa, Emirates ID and medical test, as any UAE employer must. UAE labour law puts recruitment and visa costs on the employer, so a genuine job offer “with visa sponsorship” should never ask you to pay for your own work visa.
Dubai job seeker visa price
If you want to search for a job from inside the UAE, the single-entry job seeker (job exploration) visa lets you stay for 60, 90 or 120 days without a sponsor. It is meant for skilled applicants, usually with a bachelor’s degree. The issue fee is AED 200 (60 days), AED 300 (90 days) or AED 400 (120 days) plus VAT. A refundable security deposit of about AED 1,000 and service fees are added, so most reported totals are around AED 1,500 to 1,800. Apply through ICP, or GDRFA for Dubai, and check the current fees there before you pay.

Salaries
Dubai Careers does not publish salaries on most listings. News reports on government roles open to expats in 2026 have quoted packages of up to around AED 40,000 a month for senior specialist and chief roles (Gulf News). Government packages often include housing and transport allowances, annual flights and health insurance, but these vary by entity and grade. Ask for the full breakdown before you accept an offer.
Where to live: rent near the main government offices
Once you have an offer, the next big decision is where to rent. A short commute matters more than you might think: Dubai traffic around Al Garhoud, Deira and Al Ittihad Road is heavy at peak times, and Salik tolls add up. These are the main hubs and the areas people working there usually look at:
| Employer and office | Location | Areas to consider |
|---|---|---|
| RTA head office | Umm Ramool, Marrakech Street (Red Line) | Al Garhoud, Mirdif, Dubai Creek Harbour, International City |
| Dubai Police General HQ | Al Twar 1, Al Ittihad Road (near Al Qiyadah metro) | Al Qusais, Muhaisnah, Al Warqaa, Mirdif |
| DEWA head office | Umm Hurair 2, Sheikh Rashid Road (near Wafi) | Bur Dubai, Al Jaddaf, Business Bay |
| Dubai Airports, Emirates, dnata, Dubai Civil Aviation | Al Garhoud / DXB | Al Garhoud, Deira, Al Qusais, Mirdif |
For a sense of prices, median advertised apartment rents in Q3 2026 were about AED 72,000 a year in JVC, AED 105,000 in Business Bay and AED 180,000 in Downtown Dubai (The Gulf Pulse, 14 October 2026). Older communities in Deira, Bur Dubai, Al Qusais and International City are usually cheaper. Our commute cost guide shows what petrol and Salik add each month from 15 areas.
How much rent can you afford?
A common rule of thumb is to keep rent to about a third of your monthly salary. On a AED 20,000 salary that is roughly AED 6,500 a month, or about AED 80,000 a year. If your package includes a housing allowance, check whether it is paid monthly or yearly: many Dubai landlords want rent in one to four cheques, so a yearly allowance can make a better deal possible. Tips that improve your chances
- Apply only where you fit. Government recruiters screen against the exact degree and years of experience listed.
- Check the nationality line first. It saves hours of applications to “UAE Only” roles.
- Look at the posting date. Many roles stay listed for weeks, but early applicants are often screened first.
- Get your certificates attested early. Attestation can take weeks and often holds up offers.
- Use official sites only. Fake “government job” offers that ask for visa or processing fees are a common scam.
Frequently asked questions
Can Indian or Pakistani nationals apply for Dubai government jobs?
Yes, for any role marked “All Nationalities”. There is no separate track by nationality. Roles marked “UAE Only” are not open to any expat.
Can freshers get Dubai government jobs?
It is hard. Most roles open to expats are specialist, senior or chief positions that ask for several years of experience. Freshers have more chances with government-owned companies, airlines and airports, and in temporary roles such as survey work.
Can freshers get RTA jobs?
RTA is the biggest hirer of expats on Dubai Careers, but most of its roles open to all nationalities are specialist, senior and engineering posts with several years of experience. Freshers have the best chance with technician and workshop roles when they appear, and with RTA contractors and transport operators. Check RTA’s vacancies on Dubai Careers regularly: new roles are added most weeks.
Are there Dubai government jobs for females?
Yes. Roles are not split by gender. Any vacancy marked “All Nationalities” is open to women expats, and “UAE Only” roles are open to Emirati women.
Do Dubai government jobs come with visa sponsorship?
Yes. The hiring entity sponsors your residence visa and pays the visa costs.
How much is the Dubai job seeker visa?
The issue fee is AED 200 for 60 days, AED 300 for 90 days or AED 400 for 120 days plus VAT, with a refundable deposit and service fees on top. Reported totals are about AED 1,500 to 1,800. Confirm on the ICP or GDRFA website.
Is there a fee to apply on Dubai Careers?
No. Applying on the official portal is free. Anyone asking for money to secure a government job is not genuine.
Where are Abu Dhabi and federal government jobs listed?
Abu Dhabi Government and federal UAE Government entities use their own portals. This guide covers Dubai Government vacancies listed on Dubai Careers.
